Then she asked me, "Kung magpapakasal talaga tayo, bakit hindi pa ngayon?"
I knew she was a smart girl and as the eldest in her family, she had dreams in life and I didn't want to ruin her future career. But because of her courage, we carefully planned things out.
We shared our plans to our respective families and most especially to her extended family who was supporting her education. Some of them were against our plans. I was struggling because at this stage in my life, I felt I had nothing to be proud of.
So I honestly confronted her.
"Bhe, kapag nanatili ka dito magpapatuloy kang mag.aaral, matatapos ka, magkakaroon ka ng magandang trabaho, gaganda ang buhay mo. Pero kapag sumama ka sa akin, hindi kita mapapangakuan ng magandang buhay. Kapag umuwi tayo sa amin hindi ko nga alam kung may maipapakain na ako sayo. Wala na akong work. Wala akong ipon, di pa ako nakapag-start ng college. As in zero ako. At magiging zero ka na din kapag nagpakasal ka sa akin. Tutuloy na ba talaga tayo?"
Without hesitation, she answered YES! Then she added:
"Hindi naman ako magpapakasal dahil lang sa mahal kita. Magpapakasal ako sayo kasi mahal ko rin si Heavenly Father and I know this way is His way to bless our relationship."
Long story short, we got married on 7th June 2013. None of her family joined our wedding ceremony because we had nothing to spend for their travel expenses. There was no reception. We both had no jobs and we didn't know how to start.
A week after our wedding, we prepared our resume and looked for jobs. Heavenly Father blessed us gradually. Regie got hired first and a month later I got an employment as well. A year after, we were blessed with a child. We kept moving in life. It wasn't easy. It was tiresome juggling several things: work, school and family altogether. But eventually, Regie graduated in college and I have one year left to finish college. Just last June, she gave birth to our second baby.
We started from scratch but we worked together to get things through. We know God is always on our side. He blessed our lives immensely. He didn't fail us with His promise to provide us with what we need. We remained faithful unto Him by keeping His commandments. We had no regrets in our decision. And we continue to do everything to achieve our long-awaited dreams.
